Vertical strawberry grower

Purchased 30 strawberry plants that will be going into my vertical grow garden next month (May). Started setting up the vertical garden, but still need to get a nutrient tank for it. Also can't decide what to use for as growing medium.

Hi Tom, I built this same unit. I've had great luck with vermiculite. About $70 to fill it up. But if I had it to do over again, I'd use gutter foam. Find it at Home Depot. It's a foam about 4" thick and 6' long that peope install in their house gutter to filter out debris.

You do not need a medium for the tubes just to secure the plants in small pots. Vermiculite, perlite or clay beads are fine if the plants were originally in soil but for this type of system better to start the plants of in rockwool and then just translant the pot straight into the unit. A water pump sending a good quality ionic feed into each tube is all you need. Remember with feed less is always better until you find the best results. You can buy a good quality liquid feed designed for strawberies.
